Description: The wall dates back to about the second half of 1300, the same period in which the already existing tower was widened by the Bolognesi. The continued presence of foreign troops left social disaster and financial disarray. The relationship between Imola and Riolo worsened with the fall of some parts of the wall. The first signs of its giving in came in the autumn of 1760, and the spring of 1764 due to a deluge which caused the wall to come down in four places. The city counsellors had in 1748 already signalled the danger. Repair works were carried out several times and were uncontrolled, with free works and using the stone from the ramparts which started the demolition that was terminated at the beginning of the new century. Over the years, the wall collapsed many times, 1777, 1780, 1794, 1808, 1859, 1927, and also in the following years with the second world war.
