Description: A splendid bas-relief of admirable simplicity, essentiality and poetry in harmony with the nature of the artist Domenico Matteucci, who regardless of his not very large quantities of work, remains one of the most important and sensitive Faentine ceramists of the 1900’s. The work was created in 1986 and its set up is thanks to architect Filippo Monti who collaborated with Matteucci on several occasions.

In a very central position and successful placement on the wall of the piazza del mercato under the shade of a maple tree, the ageing of the work has contributed to its quality (the artist himself often predicted this and took care in looking for a terracotta that though time would take on warmer shades) and the beauty of the theme. In fact its execution, the “wall moved by the wind” is a theme that can be created only by a vivid and playful imagination and made into a gigantic drapery, ondulated yet sober and not heavy – make this sculpture – a unique piece in the rich and varied Faentine panorama. The work was commissioned and financed by Count Antonio Lotti Margotti, the owner of the building and personal friend of D. Matteucci.

Directions: The bas-relief is walled in on the outside of Piazza Martiri della Libertà and therefore always visible and accessible. The piazza can be reached by car and with respect to the central Piazza del Popolo lies behind the Palazzo del Podestà.
