Address: c/o Palazzo Mengoni

Tourist offices:

Explaination: In the centre of the courtyard of Palazzo Mengoni, which once housed the local school, there was an artesian well, where there was a simple tap attached to a metal pole. The water was not ferruginous although it was still good and to the liking of the students who drank from it before or after their lessons. After the war, when Palazzo Mengoni became the Municipality offices, came the idea to ornate the courtyard with a fountain – monument. This was dedicated to all the civil victims of the second world war and is found in the centre of the courtyard where there once was the artesian well. The statues of two disheartened children are the work of Angelo Biancini and known commonly as “i derelitti” (the forlorn). The monument was inaugurated in 1962.

Directions: Situated in the centre of the internal courtyard of Palazzo Mengoni, current offices of the Municipality, in the main piazza of the town.
