Historical folklore group.

Object: Tamburi di Brisighella (The drums of Brisighella)

Historical origins: The group was founded in 1984 and soon became a central part of the Brisighella Medieval Festival, and is still today the protagonist as the official historical group. The group uses one of the largest shoulder strap drums in existence known as “timpano”. This instrument produces a strong and violent sound typical of medieval rhythms. In medieval times the use of a drum on its own did not produce the melody of the music but was used to attract attention. Today 18 drums are used by the group produce a variety of fascinating sounds and rhythms. In order to improve their technique the group have studied the music and its history under the medieval musicologist Andrea Vitali. The group’s music can be appreciated in medieval parades and costume festivals, the Brisighella Drummers have played a large role in enriching numerous festivals and exhibitions all over Italy and abroad.
