Born in Faenza on 25th July 1881 to parents from Brisighella, Giuseppe Ugonia attended Minardi’s Arts and Crafts School where he was friends with fellow student Domenico Baccarini.

He frequented Pellegrino Morgagni’s lithographic workshop and graduated from the Bologna Fine Arts Academy in 1908, further honing his artistic technique with the company Comellini.

He began exhibiting in 1910 and his fame grew shortly afterwards, with successful shows in London, Brighton, Florence and Venice where his talent was applauded.

Numerous works by Ugonia, accompanied by writings, appeared in prestigious magazines such as “Emporium”, “Nuova Antologia” and “Chiaro di luna”.

The years 1921-1927 saw this Faenza-Brisighella artist rise to international level: in 1930 he was in Paris, 1933 in Brussels, 1934 in London and 1935 in Ottawa, always enjoying success and considerable praise.

He died on 5th October 1944.

The Brisighella Civic Museum, in the former Palazzo della Pretura, houses a collection of lithographs, watercolours and drawings by Giuseppe Ugonia (1881-1944) whose works are found in the most prestigious museums worldwide.
