Borgo Rivola. (Part of the Municipality of Riolo Terme).

Description: Borgo Rivola, a fraction of Riolo Terme, is located in the centre of a valley surrounded on one side by the Chalk Vein and on the other by the “Calanchi”: unique fot its landscape and habitat.
The name Rivola was mentioned for the first time in documents belonging the Municipality of Imola, that date back to May 6 1316: “”Libanorus q. Tonni de Galisterna permutavit petiam terre in terra Galisterne in loco qui voc. Rivola: a uno latere iura S. Martini” (Libarno exchanged a piece of land located in Gallisterna with one located in a village called Rivola, near S. Martino).
The centre of the town is located on a small chalky promontory (Ripula, small bank, from which Rivola gets its name). Its an example of a rural and craftsmen settelment, near F.lli Villa square, one of the most charming spots of the valley.
In the area you can admire ruins of Roman Villas and nearby Canova remains of a necropolis have been found.
